Linen is a natural fabric valued for its strength and texture. With the right linen care, your garments will soften over time and remain part of your wardrobe for many seasons.
This guide explains how to wash, dry, iron, and store linen clothing properly.

Proper linen care starts with gentle washing. You can machine wash or hand wash linen garments using mild detergent and cool or lukewarm water, especially for structured pieces made from heavy linen.
Linen fibres relax with every wash. Slight stiffness after the first wash is normal — the fabric becomes softer with wear. If needed, treat stains before washing using mild soap and cold water.
Yes. Most linen clothing can be machine washed. Select a gentle cycle and low spin setting. High temperatures may cause shrinkage, so keep the water cool or lukewarm.
Always check the care label, especially for structured or heavy linen garments.
Air drying supports long-term linen care and helps maintain the fabric’s structure.
You may tumble dry on low heat, but remove the garment while slightly damp to reduce creasing and make ironing easier.
Wrinkles are part of linen’s natural character. If you prefer a smoother look:
Many choose to embrace linen’s relaxed texture as part of its charm.
Linen naturally reacts to heat, which is why it may shrink if washed at high temperatures. To prevent this, we wash all Linenfox garments after sewing. This allows the fabric to settle and ensures your piece will not shrink under normal washing conditions.
Because the linen has already been pre-washed, you should not experience additional shrinkage when following standard care instructions. However, noticeable shrinkage may occur if the garment is exposed to very high washing or drying temperatures. For best results, we recommend washing in cool or lukewarm water and avoiding high heat when drying.
